UPDATE October 2024 : someone got me to retest broton because of some changes, and apparently you can now sign up through the onion domain with only email verification - and even RiseUp mail works unlike before. They still try to push you hard towards the paid account with a prompt that takes up almost the entire screen, and the only ways of paying are unsatisfactory (PayPal and credit card).
