If you'd like some more factual data about HT, here's a benchmark article done by the IBM Linux Technology Center (same folks who did the stress test): http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/l ... ary/l-htl/ In the article, they compare the performance of a pre-HT SMP Linux kernel (2.4) with the HT-supporting 2.6 kernel, under workloads which are single-user, multi-user, threaded, and non-threaded.
