also, it occured to me that i can probably just run most of my server software in systemd services with access to only a specific network interface? probably that will help protect against data leaks, but im not sure :p so i'll make an update about matrix once i figure out more ^-^ chat programs / tech yap (2026-03-24) is there any good way to instant-message on i2p?

Compared to several other providers I looked at that have hard bandwidth caps or a "pay as you go" system, this was perfect since I regularly use a ton of data a month. For example, at the time of writing this I had used about 24TB on the US server in a 5 day period. Compared to something like Hetzner that has a 20TB (only 1TB in the US) monthly cap where you pay for any over the cap, this works amazingly.

I want to control the bare metal, not have a built in security guard who I can never be certain isn't actually a spy. They don't build boards for me anymore. Boards are for data centers, gamers or wage cages. It is fine until it is not. Ages ago I set the router to also DHCP a couple external ip addresses to my servers, fine, it's blocked from other activity on those boxes and all is well for years until under load it decides to assign one of my external addresses to a different device.
