My comment on this: tor only has cryptic onion addresses, and it seems to work for the tor net anyways? But sites collecting onion links like onion wikis are needed for site discovery anyways, trust into these aggregators is assumed, why not bunble that with a domain some name registry?

Note that the certificate used for these sites is the same as the one used for clearnet ~vern sites, so the browser will issue an SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN error, meaning that the domain you are connecting to and the domain defined by the certificate are not the same.
