This blog will mostly be covering the browser version, because it is accessible to the most devices, although I would have hope for the android version working through just downloading an APK or already having it.

I think for a chat app something like you're talking about could work pretty well, ideally with some ability to have channels for things. i worry a little about scaling or flooding for a large room with everyone sending a message to everyone else but i think with some ratelimiting stuff handled by the P2P part it should work. other ideas - if in the chat app if there's some message id/timestamp thing, you could incorporate a form of message memory for if a peer goes offline and comes back. it could ask...

The problem with this is it means Fedora is out of the picture as they ship a new version of GNOME which breaks extensions every now and then. Ubuntu's release cycle keeps gnome 1 or 2 versions behind and that keeps extensions working.

OTOH, some people do actually do this very thing, except it's called a warrantee extension. It's often a rip-off, though, as it winds up working like insurance, and only providing a warrantee for specific areas of it breaking rather than ensuring the whole damned thing keeps working, which is what you'd prefer.
