The hardware doesn't have virtualisation support (an old G3) so I had to use Xen so that paravirtualisation was available (not currently supported by KVM). Oops, not so easy now that Xen isn't included by default, Red Hat having opted to use KVM instead.

I do not remember exactly the server's specs but those days I used those cheap Intel J1900 on Mini-ITX boards. From 4 to 8 GB memory. Xen+Debian. I worked mainly on Sun Ultrasparc+Solaris, HPUX and intel BSD systems but I preferred debian+intel for small projects like that.
